Locks Changed, Re-Keyed, & Repaired
Most people don’t think too much about their locks. Ordinarily, we’d agree that this is a good thing. But sometimes you need to think about the locks, and who has the key, and so, access to your home. If you’ve moved into a new home, your keys have gone missing, or you had to let an angry employee go, you should consider getting the locks changed, or rekeyed. Many people are unaware that excellent options exist beyond just changing a lock. Call Lock Popper Locksmiths to find our more!
First, when should you change your locks entirely? There are a few reasons. First, if you’ve moved into a new home, but the old locks are rusted out or stick, it might be worth your time to have new locks installed that look better. Second, if you experienced a burglary or break-in, upgrading your security options is a smart move. Third, if you have locks of different brands in your home or office, and you want the convenience of every lock working on one key, changing locks is a wise move.
But what about rekeying? Simply put, this means that you’ll keep your old lock, but a locksmith will change the previously working key to a new key. To do that, locksmiths will disassemble the lock and replace some of the inner parts, known as tumblers or key pins. Each series of tumblers corresponds to a specific key. Rekeying might sound difficult, but it’s generally a fast and easy procedure.
When it comes to repairs, you’ll want to do this if the lock mechanism itself becomes damaged, and the exterior of the lock is still in reasonably good shape.
